Companion Programme
A Structured, Multi-Year Professional Development Journey
About
Most students enter the workplace academically prepared but professionally uncertain. The Companion Programme by LabourNet Foundation is built to change that, not through a single intervention, but through a sustained, multi-year journey that begins in Year 1 and grows with the student through graduation.
By embedding mentorship, industry immersion, and applied learning across all three years of undergraduate study, Companion transforms the way academic institutions deliver employability, moving it from a final-year add-on to a foundational thread running through the entire degree.
At its core, Companion addresses a gap that institutions repeatedly encounter: students who are academically capable but psychologically and practically unprepared for the professional world. The programme closes that gap gradually, not suddenly.
The Companion journey
A core differentiator of the Companion Programme is its sustained mentorship model. Every student is paired with a dedicated mentor from Year 1, and that relationship continues through all three years. Mentorship within Companion is structured, guided, and outcome-focused, not ad hoc.
Mentors support students across:
Skill direction and professional behaviour.
Career clarity and goal-setting.
Emotional reassurance through the transitions from student to professional.
This continuity of support is what separates Companion from short-term interventions, and what enables students to build not just competence, but professional identity.
Capstone is the culminating experience of the Companion journey. Offered as a credit-bearing semester or year-long course, Capstone places students in live consulting roles with real industry and community partners.
